What are rooms and how do they work?

Learn the difference between public and private rooms and how to manage them.

Updated today

Rooms are customizable spaces that users can create directly in the Highrise app to socialize, trade, or host events. You can decorate your room with items from your inventory and control who can enter.

Types of rooms:

  • Public Rooms: Visible in the Directory and open to all users

  • Private Rooms: Not listed in the Directory, and access is controlled by the room owner

Room Access Settings:

You can choose who can enter your room:

  • Everyone: Anyone can join

  • Only Me: No one else can enter

  • My Teleports: Only accessible through teleporters you placed in other rooms

  • My Crew Teleports: Only accessible through teleporters placed by your crew members

  • My Crew: Only your crew members can enter

  • Moderators & Designers: Only users with those roles can access

Room Categories:

When creating or editing a room, you can assign a category such as:

  • Chat – for hangouts and social spaces

  • Trade – for item exchanges and deals

  • Games – for rooms designed around activities or interactive setups

Rooms are persistent and can be updated or deleted at any time. You can own and manage multiple rooms, each with their own settings, decor, and access rules.
