What's the difference between Rooms and Worlds?

Explains Rooms, Worlds, and event spaces, and who owns and runs each one.

Rooms are spaces players build and run inside the Highrise app. Worlds are bigger experiences, like games, events, and hangouts, that creators build with Highrise Studio. You find and join both from the Directory.

What is a Room?

A Room is a space owned by a player or a Crew. The owner decorates it with furniture, picks the music, sets who can enter, and chooses moderators and designers to help run it. Players use Rooms to hang out, trade, host games, and throw events.

In 2026 all player Rooms moved to a new 3D room system. It added customizable layouts, custom spawn points, placeable pets, dynamic lighting, and a design mode where designers can build together. Existing rooms were upgraded automatically, and their furniture and settings came along.

What is a World?

A World is built by a creator in Highrise Studio. Worlds can have their own gameplay, quests, leaderboards, shops, and music. The creator sets the rules, so features like the radio, voice, and who can join depend on the World. Many Highrise events take place in Worlds made by the Highrise team.

Can I have my own Room inside a World?

Some Worlds let players create their own room inside them, often for a monthly Gold subscription set by the creator. See How do Rooms inside Worlds work?

Who makes the rules?

Everyone follows the Community Guidelines everywhere in Highrise. On top of that, room owners and World creators can remove or ban people from their own space. Those room-level bans don't affect your account anywhere else.

Why does a World or Room look different from what I remember?

Owners and creators can redesign their spaces at any time, and Worlds can be updated by their creator. If a World asks you to update the app, install the latest version first.

How do I rate or review a World?

Open the World's info and use Ratings & Reviews. You can like or dislike the World and add an optional written review, and you can edit or delete your review later. You need to spend 5 minutes in a World before you can rate it. To report an inappropriate review, use Report Review on it.
