How does chat translation work?

How Highrise translates chat into your language and what to do when a translation looks wrong.

Highrise can translate chat written in other languages into your language, so you can talk with players around the world. You can turn automatic translation on or off in Settings > Language, and translate a single message whenever you need to.

How does automatic translation work?

Turn Enable Auto-Translate on or off in Settings > Language. When it's on, chat messages in another language are shown translated into your selected language. Your own messages are sent exactly as you typed them. Each player sees translations based on their own settings.

Can I translate a single message?

Open the message's options and choose Translate to see it in your language. Choose See original to switch back.

Why is a translation wrong or strange?

Translations are made by machine translation. They do well with full sentences and can struggle with slang, very short messages, and some regional dialects. If a translation doesn't make sense, ask the player to rephrase, or turn automatic translation off to read the original.

Why isn't a message being translated?

  • Automatic translation may be off in your settings.

  • The message may already be in your app's language.

  • Very short messages, emoji, and usernames are often left as they are.

Is translated chat still moderated?

Yes. Chat in every language follows the Community Guidelines. If a message breaks the rules, report it like any other message. See How do I report another player?

Still need help?

If translation stopped working everywhere, update the app and restart it. If that doesn't help, contact Support through How do I contact support? with your app language, device, and app version.
